How Periowave Works
Periowave uses a novel non-antibiotic approach for treating the underlying infection responsible for periodontal disease. After routine scaling, the dentist will apply the compound directly into the periodontal pockets and around the gum line of affected teeth. The compound quickly penetrates the plaque and binds to bacteria and their toxic secretions. Laser light is then applied directly to the affected sites. This painless reaction weakens the bacterial cell walls and they are destroyed. Because the bacteria are immediately destroyed they do not become resistant to this therapy like they can to antibiotic therapy. The procedure is expected to take under 20 minutes to complete for the entire mouth.
There is no post-treatment home care required following a Periowave treatment. The patient may brush and floss normally, or as consistent with post-SRP treatment restrictions provided by your dentist. Normal at-home oral hygiene procedures may be followed.
